Most of the listining comunity picked sides, either you ran with he East Coast or the West Coast, until the South started making noise.

Up until about 1997 I continued to listen to everything but I started leaning more twoards the East Coast, and when the hood took over, I went straight Underground.

When Kanye West came on the scene, I felt like he was the bridge for underground and mainstream hip hop working with artists like Talib Kweli and Jay Z.

On the album Death of a Pop Star 9th Wonder becomes the musical bridge collaborating with David Banner.

This album has the potential to be a slept on classic. 9th’s beats have his signature bass line style and David Banner was free to tackle his own demons and lyrically explore subjects that would often be off limits on a normal Down South album.

The overall length o the album is pretty short, but I’d rather an album leave me wanting more than skipping over filler tracks.

Black Milk’s new video Deadly Medley reminds me of a Detroit version of the 2010 Miami Heat, three superstars sharing the spotlight but each ready to take over the game at a seconds notice.

It’s always good to hear new music from one of my favorite producers, Marc Mac of 4hero.

Its been a while for  Lauryn Hill. Check out her newest song Repercussions.

I’m not surprised that new music from Ms. Lauryn Hill is starting to surface before her return to the stage later this summer on the 2010 Rock The Bells Tour.

I’m planing on hitting the D.C. show,, so I hope her voice is well rested after her long break .

Out of all the stuff i listened too, I thought it would be best to repost some pieces from cats that actually knew Guru, because I feel there might be some cats trying to get some undue publicity off of dudes death.

So,, 1st up I heres a recording of Jazzmatazz live at Eurockéennes Festival (France) (2001) posted by DJ Premier. For me Jazzmatazz is a good representation of the sound and feel of the 90′s.

As I said I listened to a lot of Guru mixtapes, but nobody had as much passion as DJ Evil Dee on his Podcast. He touches most of the hits and the songs that you probably want to hear, but lets face it there are so many Gang Starr and Guru records it would be too much to play everything.

Sade is out promoting her new album. She stopped by a couple of the late night talk shows to preform Soldier of Love and Babyfather.

So NBC figured out  how to get me to temporarily,,  drop my personal boycott of Jay Leno (I’m with COCO).  Sade  preformed Babyfather with her daughter Ila as a backup singer.

It’s good to see that they haven’t abandoned making gritty records while providing the backing music for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

One thing though,,, is it just me or does it take a second to get used to Black Thought as a singer?
