What Happend to Chi Ali?

In the early 90′s Chi Ali was a member of the legendary Native Tongues crew at the young age of fourteen. He released a solo album called ‘The Fabulous Chi-Ali’, in my opinion it had some classic material on it (check Age Ain’t Nothing But a # after the jump), but after that Chi Ali faded into the background like so many of the Hip-Hop artist that were exploited during the days of the big record labels.

In 2000 everyone in the Hip Hop community was surprised to see Chi Ali featured on Americas Most Wanted in an extensive manhunt stemmed from second-degree murder charge. After evading the Police for a little over a year Chi Ali was arrested and convected of shooting his victim.

Chi Ali was sentenced to a fourteen years in a maximum security prison, and thats where John Walsh would love to end the story, but thanks to Harold Budd, Keith Lowe and Espi we get a view into the current world of Chi Ali.

Flying Lotus More Than Cartoons

Flying Lotus is truly doing some space aged music.

If you’ve been up late and decided to watch The Cartoon Network and found yourself nodding your head then you’ve heard the abstract beats of Flying Lotus. Adult Swim uses Fly Lo’s beats as the backdrop for there sometimes weird and minimalist promo’s.

Cosmogramma is Flying Lotus’s new album that its full of lush layered sounds ,blips and complex textured beats that fall somewhere in between Sun Ra and J Dilla. It seems to be smoother and more cohesive than his last album Los Angeles (also a must listen).

The album is packed tight with seventeen cuts and weighs in at about forty five minutes, but it doesn’t feel short or rushed probably due to the complexity of the music.

O.K.,,, I know this is not an album for everyone,, but if your into expanding musical horizons past the limits gravity, check it out.

18 years after Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) The Rza has taken one more step in his journey to be an actual Shaolin Master and made his own Kung Fu move.

Wu-Tang vs. The Golden Phoenix definitely has that Saturday afternoon Kung-Fu Matinee feel with complete with a bad overdub and dark grainy video..

I haven’t been able to track down much info on when the release day is. I did notice that it’s associated Grindhouse Productions (Quentin Tarantino’s production company) so maybe it’ll be a double feature with Machete,,,, but by the look of it I’m betting on straight to ~~VHS~~ DVD.

A New Video From My Doppelganger

At the last Scribble Jam(R.I.P.) I met this drunk dude that thought I was an MC named Swamburger. The dude was mad drunk but he wasn’t wrong we do kind of look alike.

I was able to link up with Swamburger (back when people still used Myspace) and he was cool, and we had few laughs at the whole situation.

Nevertheless Swamburger is a dope MC and his crew the Solilaquists of Sound put it down on on some classic Hip Hop. Check out there new album No More Heroes.

Sade’s Making The Late Night Rounds

Sade is out promoting her new album. She stopped by a couple of the late night talk shows to preform Soldier of Love and Babyfather.

So NBC figured out how to get me to temporarily,, drop my personal boycott of Jay Leno (I’m with COCO). Sade preformed Babyfather with her daughter Ila as a backup singer.
