I know for some listeners this release might be to far out, but I think Thundercat does a good job of mixing new production styles with an old sound. I don’t think the the bass has gotten any love since Bootsy so
it’s good to hear the bass as the featured instrument.

As the weather is starting to get a little cooler the Golden Age of Apocalypse is going to be nice accompanied by a glass of merlot at the end of the day or a nice hot coffee on a lazy Saturday morning.

Most of the listining comunity picked sides, either you ran with he East Coast or the West Coast, until the South started making noise.

Up until about 1997 I continued to listen to everything but I started leaning more twoards the East Coast, and when the hood took over, I went straight Underground.

When Kanye West came on the scene, I felt like he was the bridge for underground and mainstream hip hop working with artists like Talib Kweli and Jay Z.

On the album Death of a Pop Star 9th Wonder becomes the musical bridge collaborating with David Banner.

This album has the potential to be a slept on classic. 9th’s beats have his signature bass line style and David Banner was free to tackle his own demons and lyrically explore subjects that would often be off limits on a normal Down South album.

The overall length o the album is pretty short, but I’d rather an album leave me wanting more than skipping over filler tracks.

Most great music is made as an effort to expand oneself, and this Hayling’s effort as a seasoned keyboard player to do more then sample the greats . He has deconstructed the music and recreated the colors of Ahmad Jamal, Herbie Hancock, and Thelonius Monk, then he looped and chopped the samples on his MPC and added a good dose of the BoomBap.

I hate the amount of time inbetween Sade releases, so after ten years (not counting Lovers Live because as good as it was there was no new material.) I figured I would make Sade wait on me.

So on Febuary 09 2010,, I went to the store and purchased a copy of Soldier of Love,,, but I didn’t listen to it till the next day. Take that Ms.Sade! Maybe the next album will only take nine years to finish.

O.K.! I take it all back, the ten year hiatus didn’t feel that long, especiallysince this album seems to pickup where Lovers Rock left off. Once again this album pulls from a varitey ofdifferentstyles of music, including colors of Jazz, Hip-Hop, Electronica, Rock, Country, and Reggae.

Lyrically it feels likea personal conversation with Ms. Adu or listining to her introspective, and after watching the making of the album, I was supreised to hear that none of the music or lyrics were made before going to the studio. I think that adds to the organic feel andcohesivenessof the project.

Speaking of the studio.. The audio mix is outstanding! A song that seem simple like Morning Bird, on second listen has deep textures and sounds that reside in there own sonic space.

I hope that this album does two things. 1st I hope it ignites the mainstream seek out more music and artists that lyrically and musically have something to say. 2nd I hope this album bring Sade out on tour.

Finally, I’m looking forward to hearing some new Sade remixes and mashups.
